Mayoral Notes
As we transition from the festive holiday season into the new year, I find myself reflecting on the many volunteers in our community who dedicate their time and energy to making Claremont a better place. These individuals and groups exemplify the spirit of giving, and their efforts deserve recognition and appreciation.
Over the years, I have emphasized the importance of volunteerism and encouraged residents to consider joining one of the city’s many boards and committees. While these opportunities remain vital to our local government, there is also immense value in highlighting the community-driven efforts of organizations that tirelessly work to enhance our quality of life.
One example is the Arrowhead Recreation Club, which provides low-cost tubing and skiing opportunities for families. This group works tirelessly to make snow at every opportunity, and their efforts paid off when they opened just after Christmas to an enthusiastic crowd of volunteers and participants. While their snow-making capabilities help them remain operational, they are still reliant on the whims of mother nature. It’s inspiring to see how dedicated they are to providing accessible winter recreation for our community.
Similarly, the Shugah Valley Snow Riders ensure our local snowmobile trails are maintained and enjoyable for enthusiasts. Their work involves clearing fallen trees, repairing bridges, and trimming overgrown branches. Recently, they received a new Tucker groomer, replacing their 1997 model, thanks to grants they successfully secured. This upgrade will allow them to continue their invaluable trail maintenance efforts for years to come.
The Sullivan County ATV Club also deserves recognition for their ongoing work. They not only maintain the trails for ATV enthusiasts but also volunteer to monitor riders, helping to ensure safety and responsible use of the trails. Their efforts create a safe and enjoyable environment for all, while preserving the integrity of our outdoor spaces.
Winter in New Hampshire can be unforgiving, but organizations like the Trinity Episcopal Church provide a much-needed reprieve. Their warming center offers a haven for individuals seeking shelter from the harsh weather, demonstrating compassion and care for our community’s most vulnerable members.
The Sullivan County Humane Society is an asset to the community, tirelessly working to ensure the well-being of animals in need. Their efforts not only provide care and shelter for animals but also foster a stronger connection between residents and their furry companions.
Community spirit also shines brightly during our annual celebrations. The Claremont-Sugar River Rotary Club has collaborated with the city to host the First Night Celebration, a family-friendly event that has become a wonderful tradition. Their hard work and coordination ensure that families have a memorable way to ring in the new year together.
Meanwhile, the Kiwanis of Claremont Club continues its legacy of supporting children and families. Their projects and events strengthen our community and remind us of the importance of investing in the next generation.
These are just a few examples of the many volunteer-driven initiatives that make Claremont a vibrant and caring community. Behind each organization are countless individuals who give their time, talents, and resources to make these efforts possible. Whether it’s through maintaining trails, hosting events, providing shelter, or offering recreational opportunities, these volunteers embody the best of what our city has to offer.
It’s also important to acknowledge the many other volunteers who work quietly behind the scenes. From helping at local food pantries to organizing community cleanups, their efforts often go unnoticed but are deeply appreciated. To all the volunteers in Claremont: thank you for everything you do.
As we begin this new year, I encourage everyone to consider how they might contribute to these efforts or start their own. Volunteering not only strengthens our community but also fosters connections and creates a sense of shared purpose. There is no shortage of opportunities to get involved, and every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference. Together, we can continue building a community we are all proud to call home.
