GM boys, BF girls top local teams at UVM

BURLINGTON, Vt. — The fifth week of the indoor track & field season saw several strong competitors convene at the University of Vermont with 32 schools participating on Sunday, Jan. 12.  

Division 2 featured 24 teams competing, including Bellows Falls, Green Mountain, and Springfield.  

Green Mountain was the top local team on the boy’s side, placing seventh, primarily due to a couple of strong performances in shot put. Sophomore Ezra Price-Wood was the top finisher among Division 2 competitors with a heave of 40’9″ and junior Wyatt Koch secured third place with a throw of 36’11”. Theo Schilling was the other scoring member for Green Mountain, claiming fourth in the 1,600-meter run in 4:58.22. 

On the girl’s side, sophomore Desi Broadley and senior Hadley Gleim combined for 18 points to lead Bellows Falls to a ninth-place finish. Broadley was the second Division 2 competitor to cross the finish line in the 3,200-meter run (12:03.04) and placed fifth in the 1,000-meter run (3:23.46). Gleim sprinted to a fifth-place finish in the 55-meter dash (8.00) and followed it up with a seventh-place result in long jump (13’7.5″).  

Other local athletes who scored for their teams included Bellows Falls’ Brandon Keller (second in 55-meter hurdles, sixth in high jump), Springfield’s Tristin Stagner (fifth in 55-meter hurdles) and Carter Tanner (eighth in 300-meter dash), and Green Mountain’s high jumping duo of Sophia Cherubini (tied for fourth) and Isidora Gibson (eighth).  

Newport competes at Plymouth State 

PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Newport traveled to Plymouth State University on Saturday, Dec. 11 and finished tied for 10th in both the boy’s and girl’s meets.  

Bryce Palmer and Cayden Forand each secured top five finishes on the track for the Tigers with Palmer placing fourth in the 3,000-meter run (10:27.01) and Forand finishing fifth in the 1,000-meter run (2:55.55). Palmer and Forand also teamed up with Michael Bohn and Christian Forsythe to finish fifth in the 4 x 400-meter relay in 3:54.56.  

Newport’s remaining points on the boy’s side came in shot put, where Isaiah Nash claimed fifth (38’4″) and Logan Rusin took 10th (34’11.5″).  

Callie Dixon was the lone scorer for the Newport girls, finishing fourth in shot put with a mark of 30’6″.
