ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. — Green Mountain sophomore Ezra Price-Wood saved his best for last, throwing for a new personal best while claiming the Division 2 state title in shot put. Price-Wood entered the Vermont State Throws Meet with a personal best of 41’11.5″ before uncorking a heave of 43’6″ on Saturday at St. Johnsbury Academy. Price-Wood dominated the field, finishing over four feet ahead of runner-up Alec Husmann of Hartford.

Green Mountain junior Wyatt Koch also qualified for the state meet, placing eighth in shot put with a toss of 37’2.25″. Green Mountain is back in action on Saturday when they head to the University of Vermont for the Vermont Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Windsor squeaks past Newport

NEWPORT, N.H. — Coming off three straight appearances in the VPA Division 3 State Championship game, the Windsor Yellow Jackets scheduled several challenging games this season to prepare them for another title run. In addition to playing against multiple in-state opponents from higher divisions, the Yellow Jackets scheduled a contest with the Newport Tigers, who are off to an 8-2 start behind the dynamic duo of Taylor Fellows and Zoey Lord.

Newport proved to be a tough opponent, but in the end, Windsor held on for a 58-53 victory. While the win moved the Yellow Jackets to 8-0, it was the first time this season that an opponent came within single digits of them. Windsor’s top scorer was Sophia Rockwood with 21 points, Amelia Rockwood was next with 10 points, and Kemari Wildgoose added nine points and seven rebounds.

In addition to a showdown with the undefeated West Rutland Golden Horde, who feature 2,000-point scorer Peyton Guay, Windsor wraps up January with games against Division 1 opponents Brattleboro and Mount Anthony.
