CLAREMONT, N.H. — The Claremont Senior Center is open every Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. There are many activities including pool, card games, cribbage, puzzles, mahjong, knitting and quilting, to name a few. There is a Miracle Ear, Blood Drive and VNA Foot Clinic also scheduled.
Reservations are required for both dine-in and takeout lunch by 10:30 a.m.; call 603-678-0433. The menu for Tuesday, Jan. 28 is soup, pizza casserole and lemon-layered dessert. The menu for Thursday, Jan. 30 is soup, BBQ chicken quarters, potato salad, vegetables and frosted pumpkin bars. The price is $5 for members and $6 for non-members. Dine-in meals begin at 11:45 a.m. and takeout starts at noon.
A Turkey Dinner will be on Saturday, Feb. 15 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Confirm reservations by 3 p.m. by calling 603-678-0433; indicate whether you are dining in or taking out, and how many meals you need. The menu includes turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, squash, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls and fruit of the forest pie. The cost is $15 per meal.
Come join the fun and socialize with old and new friends on Monday, Feb. 17 at 8 a.m. for the Senior Men’s Breakfast. The cost is $2 for members and $3 for non-members.
If you need help with your taxes, AARP tax assistance will begin on Friday, Feb. 7 through Friday, April 11. To make an appointment, call Audrey at 802-345-5415. The Center does not schedule appointments.
The first trip of the year has been booked! We will be going to West Springfield, Massachusetts, on Thursday, April 10. We will go to the Carriage House for a complete dinner and show. We will see “Rock & Roll Heaven.” This tribute is to the Legends of Rock ‘n’ Roll and more. We will leave the Senior Center around 9:00 a.m. and return around 5:30 p.m. The price includes the bus ride, meal and show. It does not include the tip for the bus driver. The cost for members is $125 and $140 for non-members. If you are interested in going, please see Cheryl as soon as possible or call 603-543-5998. The deadline is Monday, March 17 by 2 p.m.
Want to help the Center get a bench made out of plastic? We are collecting all kinds of plastic for this project. There is a list of plastics on the bulletin board that will be accepted. We need 1,000 pounds, so please bring in your clean plastics for this important project.
February Foot Clinics will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6 and Wednesday, Feb. 12, Feb. 19 and Feb. 26. These clinics are sponsored by Lake Sunapee Region VNA and Hospice with a charge of $30. Appointments are required by calling 603-748-1731.
Bingo is held every Wednesday afternoon. Purchase bingo cards by 12:45; games start at 1 p.m. Concession is open until bingo starts.
Want to show your cribbage skills with others? Come and join other enthusiastic players on Tuesdays at 1 p.m.
“Wannabe” mahjong newcomers are welcome. Interested in learning the game? Please come on Fridays at 1 p.m.
Come show off your knitting masterpieces! We are excited to see them, so come by on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. and have a good time.
The Women to Women group will meet Thursday, Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. All women are welcome to come and talk about any issues they are experiencing.
An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be Monday, Feb. 17 from noon to 5 p.m. Please call 1-800-Red-Cross (1-800-733-2767) to schedule an appointment. Blood donors are desperately needed.
Do you want to be part of the game of pool? Ladies play every Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. Men play every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. Everyone is welcome.
Come tell your story with the quilting skills you want to share with others. You don’t have to be a quilter to attend; bring your own project. The next meeting is Monday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m.
The next chair yoga session is Monday, Feb. 3 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Members are free and non-members are $5. Come out and bring a bonus person with you. The sign-up sheet is in the lobby.
Bring your line dancing feet every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Beginner’s line dance begins from 7-8:30 and then intermediate dancing from 8:30-9. The cost is $3 for members (bring your card) and $5 for non-members. One price will give you both beginner’s and intermediate sessions. Bring your own beverage and a snack if you need one.
The next tai chi class will begin its next session on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Everyone is welcome to join this class, whether a beginner or advanced. We will go over the form (a series of flowing movements), exercises to help further with balance/fall prevention/ease of movement, etc., and tools to practice at home. The next Friday Night Fundraiser Bingo game will be on Friday, Feb. 7. The doors open at 4:30 p.m., games start at 6 p.m. This is open to the public, must be 18 years of age to play. The next membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. This will give you a chance to hear what is happening with the center and have a chance to win a free lunch.
