Rita C. (Hayward) Hague

LOUISVILLE, KY– Rita C. (Hayward) Hague, 101, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Nazareth Home – Clifton in Louisville, Kentucky on January 21, 2025. She was born in Claremont, NH on November 19, 1923 to Merton and Mary(Nault) Hayward and graduated from St. Mary High School in 1941.
Rita worked at the Electric Boat in Groton, CT after graduation to assist in the war effort and met her husband, Edward W. Hague who was also employed there. They were married on St. Patrick’s Day in 1944.
Rita was also employed as a cafeteria cook at Charlestown High School, a school bus driver for the Fall Mountain School District, and secretary at the Richard H. Perry insurance agency which later became the Koson Agency from which she retired. She was also clerk of the Fall Mountain School Board and a Justice of the Peace marrying 60 local couples during her tenure.
She is pre-deceased by her husband, Edward, her parents, her three brothers, John Francis Hayward, Bernard Hayward, and Richard Albert Hayward, and her three sisters, Helen Leonard, Claire J Shaw, and Geraldine Jeffrey. She was also pre-deceased by nephews John (Jack) Hayward, Andrew Leonard, Edwin Jeffrey, Richard A. Hayward, Jr. and Erwin Shaw.
Rita is survived by her two daughters, Patricia A. Taylor and Andrea L. Carter, both of Louisville, KY, three grandchildren, Richard F.Taylor, Miramar, FL, Melanie M. Taylor, Berwick, ME, and Nicholas E. Carter, Louisville, KY, nephews Glenn Shaw/ Pam, Michael Hague, Robert (Bruce) Jeffrey/ Mariko, Joseph F. Hague, and Harold Shaw/Cherie, and nieces, Carole Ann (Hayward) Kane, Lorraine (Leonard) Wright/Steve, Linda (Shaw) Liang, Janet (Hague) Schuster, Colleen(Leonard) Racine/Larry, Barbara Jeffrey, Alana Shaw/Kim, Jean (Jeffrey) McBride. She was also survived by several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
