To the Editor:
As your State Senator representing Windsor County and the Vice Chair of the Agriculture Committee, I am deeply concerned about the recent decision by President Trump to freeze federal funding. This action threatens to cause significant harm to Vermonters, particularly our hardworking farmers who are the backbone of our local economy and community.
Federal grants and funding are vital for our agricultural sector. They support essential programs that help farmers innovate, adapt to changing climates and maintain sustainable practices. Without these resources, many farms will struggle to stay afloat, leading to job losses, reduced local food production, and a ripple effect that will impact every Vermonter who relies on our agricultural products.
This funding freeze doesn’t just hurt farmers; it jeopardizes the economic stability of our entire state. Vermont’s agricultural heritage is a source of pride and a key component of our identity. Undermining this sector weakens our communities and threatens the livelihoods of countless families.
My caucus colleagues and I are committed to doing everything in our power to mitigate the damage this administration’s actions are causing. We will explore all available avenues to support our farmers and protect the interests of Vermonters. Whether through state-level initiatives, alternative funding sources, or legislative measures, we will not stand by while our communities suffer.
I urge all Vermonters to stay informed and engaged on this critical issue. Together, we can advocate for the support our state needs and deserves.
