CHESTER, Vt. — Police arrested a man for his fifth charge of driving under the influence (DUI), as well as driving with a suspended license for his fourth DUI, after officers found him passed out behind the wheel on the side of a road.
Edward Arnold, 54, of Grafton, Vermont, was arrested on Jan. 27 and faces charges of DUI-5 and Driving with a License Suspended for DUI-4, according to information provided by the Chester Police Department.
On Jan. 27 at 7:58 p.m., Chester Police Sgt. Noah Rheaume, as well as Officers Michael Keefe and Craig Watrous, responded to a report of a driver passed out behind the wheel while pulled over on Sylvan Road. Upon investigation, Arnold was found to be under the influence and arrested for the charges previously listed.
Arnold was cited to appear in Windsor County Superior Court – Criminal Division on Feb. 11 and lodged without bail for violating terms of his probation.
Requests for additional information were made to Chief Thomas Williams and Sgt. Rheaume, as well as through the Windsor County Superior Court, but calls were not immediately returned.
According to the Vermont Court Records website, a fourth DUI conviction and other subsequent convictions can lead to up to 10 years of jail time and a fine of not more than $5,000. The offender must also serve at least 192 consecutive hours of the sentence in jail.
