BELLOWS FALLS, VT– Albin David Johnson Jr. 89 of Bellows Falls passed away on February 2, 2025 at his home of Melanoma. Albin was born on June 29, 1935 in Gardner, MA to Albin D. Johnson Sr. and Hazel L. (Goodrich) Johnson. Albin graduated from Charlestown High School, and received a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Maine. Albin served his country in the US Navy from 1954-57 as a medic. His life work consisted of civil service, and he worked on the Panama Canal, at Dufresne Henry Engineering Corp., Berlin Waterworks in Berlin, NH as Superintendent and Chief Engineer, from where he retired.
Albin served on the Bellows Falls Selectboard for 5 years in the 1970’s and was a member of the Elks #1619, American Legion Post 37, K of C Berlin, NH and served as past president of the Rotary Club in Berlin and past president of the NH Waterworks Association. He was also a life member of the American Civil Engineers. Albin also served on the advisory board for the State of N.H.
Al is survived by his life partner, Dorothy Roth, whom he loved and shared a home with in both Berlin, NH and Tarpon Springs FL. They spent their retirement years traveling on cruises, going out west and visiting family near and far.
He then moved back to Bellows Falls to be close to his children and grandchildren.
Al was married to Margaret (Barry) Johnson and had six children together, Mary Johnson, Barry Johnson, Deborah Johnson (Sy), and Timothy Johnson (Kathy). He is also survived by five grandchildren, and one great granddaughter, whom he cherished. He was predeceased by his parents and his children David and Daniel (infant son) and siblings Andrew Johnson, Ellen Yell, Robert Miner, Agnes LaMere and Joyce Carlisle.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday February 15, 2025 from 9:00 until 10:45am at the Fenton and Hennessey Funeral Home 55 Westminster St. with a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am at St. Charles Church 31 Cherry Hill, Bellows Falls, VT. Burial will follow at St. Charles Cemetery.
