NEWPORT, N.H. — Hey y’all! I know it has been a minute since we have reached out, but I hope everyone has been safe, dry and warm. It may be winter, but things are still hopping here at the Newport Senior Center. Last week, we spent an evening with the Newport Chamber of Commerce.
We are proud to share that the Newport Chamber of Commerce recognized the Newport Senior Center as Nonprofit of the Year. It is truly an honor and privilege to be able to provide a space for older adults to socialize, enjoy a nutritious meal, receive transportation services that enable them to remain independent, and various programs to stay healthy.
This week we are gearing up to participate in the Newport Winter Carnival. The NSC is embracing the carnival’s western theme with a western style breakfast. Although the weatherman is predicting more snow on Saturday, every sunrise is a new trail to ride; make it count and join us, on Sunday, for biscuits and gravy, flapjacks, home fries and a beverage.
Our rootin’, tootin’ cowboys and cowgirls will be serving up hot breakfast meals, from 8 to 10 a.m., for 10 greenbacks or 10 bucks per plate. While here, be sure to check out all our western decorations throughout the center.
Money does make the world go round. If you have not filed your 2024 income taxes yet, AARP will be at the center, every Thursday, preparing free tax assistance for those in need. If you would like to make an appointment for free tax assistance, please call 1-802-332-5348. Leave your name and phone number and one of AARP’s dedicated volunteers will call you back to schedule an appointment.
Our monthly newsletters are available on the front desk and include the schedule for the month.
If you are not able to rope in a newsletter, you can visit our Facebook page: Newport Senior Center Home of Sullivan County Nutrition Services. Be sure to include, Home of Sullivan County Nutrition Services or you will be directed to Newport Senior Center in Rhode Island.
A huge yee-haw goes out to all our dedicated Meals-on-Wheels drivers who have weathered the storm for the past two weeks to ensure no one goes to bed hungry. While delivering Meals-on-Wheels, drivers are also making sure no one is going without heat or are in any kind of danger.
Meals-on-Wheels is a great way to give back. If you are interested in helping others, reducing food insecurity and bringing peace of mind to families with older adults, consider becoming a Meals-on-Wheels driver or cook today. Call 863-3177 for more details.
