CLAREMONT, N.H. — Mother Nature has been showing her teeth this month with the Granite State getting a healthy dumping of snow. Unfortunately, these snowstorms came when the Crown Point Pigskin 5K was supposed to take place, and for the second time the event has been pushed back.

The PigSkin 5K will now take place on March 9 at 11 a.m., after originally being scheduled for Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 9 and then Feb 16. The city is expecting a massive snowstorm this weekend, and officials decided not to chance it and move the event up to next month.

“Mother Nature has other plans again!” Claremont Parks and Recreation Director Justin Martin wrote in an email. “Due to the incoming storm expected overnight Saturday into Sunday, we’ve made the tough decision to postpone the Crown Point Pigskin 5K for everyone’s safety. While we hoped to reschedule for next weekend, scheduling conflicts made that impossible.

He added, “We know this is frustrating, especially since we’ve already had to postpone once. After discussions with local officials, the risk of slick roads and deep snow — especially for our walkers — was just too high. Your safety is our top priority!”

The Pigskin 5K takes place at the Claremont Savings Bank Community Center and starts off at 10:30 a.m. with a free kids race, and then runners will take off from the starting line at 11 a.m. The race starts and ends at CSBCC, and an award ceremony will take place inside at 12:15 p.m.

Racers need to pick up bibs and check in before the start of the race. The cost is $20 online before the race day, and $25 on the day of the race. Children under 12 get $10 off the registration.

This event is being put on by the Claremont Park and Recreation Department in conjunction with CSBCC.
