Basketball Roundup: NH playoffs begin Tuesday

Boys Basketball 

Fall Mountain 59, Winnisquam 38 

TILTON, N.H. — Fall Mountain earned its first home playoff game in 30 years by concluding the regular season with a convincing victory at Winnisquam. Luke St. Pierre led the Wildcats with 20 points, Ledger Willett followed with 10, and Zach Hearne and Tyson Patch added nine apiece. Fall Mountain (11-5) earned the eighth seed in the Division 3 playoffs and will host ninth-seeded Raymond (12-6) on Tuesday.  

Kearsarge 61, Gilford 51 

GILFORD, N.H. — Eli Whipple exploded for 25 points to lead Kearsarge to victory in their regular season finale at Gilford (13-5). Noah Whipple (12), Austin Needham (7), Ajay Tremblay (7) and Bragen Kinzer (6) were next in the scoring column for the Cougars. Kearsarge (16-2) earned the third seed in the Division 3 playoffs, and will host 14th-seeded Conant (7-11) on Tuesday at 7 p.m.  

Mascoma Valley 73, Stevens 38 

CLAREMONT, N.H. — Senior Jacob Davis scored 17 points to pace Stevens in its final home game, but the hosts couldn’t contain Mascoma’s Tanner Moulton who went off for 37 points. Along with Davis, seniors Nevin Marsh (5) and Cullen Neathawk (4) played in their final home game for the Cardinals.  

Despite the loss, Stevens (4-12) was snuck into the Division 3 playoffs as the 15th seed, which sets up a rematch at second-seeded Mascoma on Tuesday. 

Newport 72, Hillsboro-Deering 42 

HILLSBORO, N.H. — The Tigers quickly dispatched Hillsboro-Deering to move to 13-5 on the season. The Tigers earned the seventh seed in the Division 3 playoffs and will host 10th-seeded Newfound on Tuesday.  

Girls Basketball 

Hopkinton 39, Stevens 33 

CLAREMONT, N.H. — Stevens put forth a strong effort, but fell just short against a strong Hopkinton (11-5) squad on Senior Night at Frederick W. Carr Gymnasium. Lily Eagan led Stevens with 11 points and senior Bella Bovell added seven points in her final home game. Stevens (6-10) earned the 14th seed in the Division 3 playoffs and will make the short trip to third-seeded Newport on Wednesday.   

Fall Mountain 65, Winnisquam 19 

LANGDON, N.H. — The Wildcats cruised to victory on Senior Night at The Den after racing out to a 39-6 halftime lead. Fall Mountain’s lone senior, Clara Stewart, led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points. Riley Beckwith (9), Abby Jarvis (8), Siera King (8), Sophia Grillone (7), Aubrey Thomas (7), Jenna Fillion (4), Kelsey Fillion (4) and Emma King (4) did the rest of the scoring for the Wildcats. As the second seed in Division 3, Fall Mountain (15-1) earned a bye and is slated to host a quarterfinal matchup on Saturday. 

Kearsarge 39, Gilford 31 

NORTH SUTTON, N.H. — Gilford held a 21-11 lead at the half, but Kearsarge came storming back to improve to 8-10 on the season. Naimah Wilson paced the Cougars with 11 points and Aya Terayama was next with 10. Kearsarge earned the 12th seed in the Division 3 playoffs and will travel to fifth-seeded Monadnock on Wednesday.  

Newport 47, Hillsboro-Deering 29 

NEWPORT, N.H. — Newport earned its seventh straight victory during its regular season finale on Friday night. The Tigers (15-3) earned the third seed in Division 3 playoffs and will host 14th-seeded Stevens on Wednesday.
