SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — A Springfield, Vermont, man was arrested last week for possession of a drug suspected to be heroin or fentanyl that was found by officers during a traffic stop.
Brad Chase, 42, was arrested on Feb. 12 at 11:03 a.m. and charged with possession of heroin.
According to a report by the Springfield Police Department, officers were patrolling the area of Spring Street and saw a vehicle leaving a known drug residence. The vehicle allegedly did not stop at a stop sign at the intersection of High Street and Park Street, and officers pulled Chase over.
“During the traffic stop officers observed various forms of drug paraphernalia within the vehicle,” the report stated. “The operator, Brad Chase, granted consent for a search of his person and vehicle. This search revealed that Brad was allegedly in possession of suspected heroin/fentanyl.”
Chase was arrested and taken to the Springfield Police Department to be processed, where he was issued a criminal citation to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit, on April 8 at 8:30 a.m.
Repeat offender arrested for trespassing
The Springfield Police Department arrested a local man for unlawful trespassing at Shaw’s Supermarket, and now he is due in court to face multiple charges.
Nathan Heist, 29, of Springfield, Vermont, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Trespassing and Violation of Conditions of Release.
According to a police report, on Feb. 2 at 2:03 p.m., officers were dispatched to Shaw’s Supermarket for a report of someone who was unlawfully trespassing. Officers located the alleged suspect, Heist, and an investigation found that he had an active set of conditions that prohibited him from being at the supermarket.
Heist was arrested and issued a criminal citation to appear at the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit on April 1 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charges.
The trespassing at Shaw’s has been a trend for Heist. On Sept. 11, Shaw’s Supermarket called the Springfield Police Department to report that Heist was allegedly in the store, which was in violation of a letter against trespass. He was located on Nov. 26 at 4:20 p.m. and issued a citation to appear in court for the alleged charge on Jan. 14.
Police find man passed out behind wheel
A local man was found passed out behind the wheel with his engine still running, and police arrested him when he refused to submit to an evidentiary breath test.
Kyle Arie, 40, of Springfield, Vermont, was arrested on Feb. 5 and faces the charge of criminal refusal.
According to a police report, at 2:48 p.m. on Feb. 5, officers were dispatched to the area of Maple Street at the lower dam parking lot for the report of a man passed out behind the wheel of a silver Toyota Corolla. Police identified the subject as Arie, and after he refused the breathalyzer, he was taken into custody without incident.
After being processed, Arie was issued a criminal citation to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit, on Feb. 18 at 8:30 a.m. to answer for the alleged charge of Criminal Refusal.
Following BOLO, 78-year-old apprehended
A 78-year-old Chester man was also arrested for allegedly driving under the influence after a “Be in the lookout” was put out when the Springfield Police Department was notified that a GMC pickup truck was being operated erratically when traveling from Charlestown, New Hampshire to Springfield on Charlestown Road.
According to a police report, Alvin T. Bailey, 78, was pulled over when officers saw him allegedly failing to maintain a lane.
“Signs of impairment were allegedly observed and the operator was screened for driving under the influence,” the report stated. “At the conclusion of the screening, the defendant was taken into custody and transported to the Springfield Police Department for processing.”
Bailey is due in Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division in Woodstock, Vermont, today to answer to the alleged charge of DUI at 8:30 a.m.
