To the Editor:
Allow me to set the Weathersfield, Vermont political record straight.
Deforest (Guertin) Bearse is not a lifelong Vermonter any more than I am.
The dairy farm she worked/lived is the Smith Family Farm in Winchendon, Massachusetts.
She did not co-found the Perkinsville Food Shelf. Betty Adams did, in the cellar of the Perkinsville Community Church many years prior. Why are Betty’s children and grandchildren not speaking out about this? After Betty died in 2011, she filled out the necessary paperwork to be eligible for the Vermont Food Bank. She is negligent in allowing all this misinformation to continually be repeated.
I don’t know much about Mr. Murray since I moved 27 years ago other than knowing his parents in a neighboring town.
I don’t understand why being a native is such an issue in this case; we already have Massachusetts people on the board. This is a selectboard seat, not the POTUS. Natives like Millie Higgins Jarvis and Lorraine Patch Zigman are long gone, as well as much of the history — and they knew some history for sure.
Lastly, I am thrilled we in town are fortunate enough to have two people that want the headache of trying to run the town. I certainly wouldn’t.
