BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. — A Westminster man was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence for the third time, which is a felony that if convicted carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
Zachary Cobb, 38, was arrested by Bellows Fall Police on Jan. 19 and charged with DUI-third violation.
According to a release by the Bellows Falls Police Department, on Jan. 19 at 6:46 p.m., Cobb was pulled over on Rockingham Street. The officer who pulled him over noticed signs that Cobb was impaired and he subsequently conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test. When the test was finished Cobb was arrested for suspicion of DUI.
Cobb was taken to the Bellows Falls Police Department to be processed and issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Windham Division, on Jan. 28 at 8:30 p.m.
According to vermontduilaws.net, conviction could lead to a potential lifetime license suspension with possibility of reinstatement after three years of sobriety and counseling, and up to $2,500 in fines. Third time offenders generally face up to 100 consecutive hours in prison or 400 hours of community service, but in severe cases the state can issue a five-year sentence. Since it is a felony, the sentence is in prison instead of county jail.
