WINDSOR, Vt. — Leaning on one player to do the majority of the scoring in basketball is rarely a winning formula against good teams.
As impressive as Charlotte Jasmin’s 23-point performance was on Monday night, Hartford struggled to get anyone else going against a Windsor team that entered the game tied for the top seed in Division 3.
Led by a balanced scoring attack and a strong team effort on the defensive end, Windsor earned a 40-29 victory to complete the season sweep against their rivals to the north.
Sophia Rockwood had the hot hand for Windsor during the first quarter, draining three shots from beyond the arc to help the hosts claim a 15-5 advantage by the end of the period.
Rockwood’s sharp shooting was hardly contagious, however, as both teams failed to score for more than five minutes to open the second quarter. Despite the slow start, both teams began to find the bottom of the net in the final minutes as Windsor entered the half with a 20-12 edge.
After posting 10 first-half points, Charlotte Jasmin continued to be a scoring machine during the second half. The junior standout tallied nine points during the third quarter and the first four points of the fourth to cut the Yellow Jackets lead to 30-28 with 5:24 remaining in the contest.
Despite having their lead reduced to one score for the first time since the opening minute, Windsor maintained its composure and responded with a 10-0 run. Hartford was unable to respond with a run of its own, allowing Windsor to secure a double-digit victory.
Windsor’s balanced scoring attack was led by Sophia Rockwood (13), Brianna Barton (9), Audrey Rupp (8) and Amelia Rockwood (6).
Windsor (15-3) travels to West Rutland (16-3) on Thursday for its regular season finale. The Yellow Jackets earned a 54-50 victory against West Rutland earlier this year.
