SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The Springfield Police Department received a call regarding a possible overdose and ultimately arrested a Charlestown man for possession of cocaine.
Michael Sykie, 44, was arrested on March 2 for cocaine possession.
According to information provided by Springfield Police, officers responded to a call for service regarding a possible overdose at 1:01 a.m. Upon arrival the operator of a vehicle was identified to be Sykie and an investigation found that he was allegedly in possession of a drug suspected to be cocaine. Sykie was taken into custody for the charge.
Sykie was subsequently taken to the Springfield Police Department to be processed and was released after being issued a criminal citation. He is scheduled to appear in Windsor County Criminal Court on April 29 at 8:30 a.m. to answer to the charge.
A message was left with Chief Jeff Burnham regarding who the possible overdose entailed, and the amount of cocaine Sykie was allegedly found with.
Sykie does have a criminal history dating back more than a decade, as he was arrested for three counts of sale of a controlled drug in in New Hampshire in a drug sweep on Oct. 16, 2014, called Operation Holiday Harvest, according to a Nov. 26 report by WPTZ. This sweep of a reported 22 arrests involved a joint effort focused on illegal drug sales that included Attorney General’s Drug Task Force, Claremont Police Department, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department, Newport Police Department, Keene Police Department, Charlestown Police Department and the Sullivan County Attorney’s Office.
Also in 2014, Sykie was arrested for obstruction of justice, according to a report by the Bellows Falls Police Department.
