Claremont Senior Center news  

CLAREMONT, N.H. — The Claremont Senior Center is open every Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. There are lots of activities like pool, card games, cribbage, puzzles, mahjong, knitting and quilting, to name a few. There is also a Miracle Ear, American Red Cross Blood Drive and VNA Foot Clinic also scheduled.   

Reservations are required for both dine-in and takeout lunch by 10:30 a.m.; call 603-678-0433. The menu for Tuesday, April 8 is salsa chicken, rice, corn and sugar cinnamon blondies. The menu for Thursday, April 10 is salad, American chop suey, garlic bread and a Danish. The price is $5 for members and $6 for non-members. Meals begin at 11:45 for dine-in and takeout begins at noon.  

Come join the fun and socialize with old and new friends on Monday, April 21 at 8 a.m. for the Senior Men’s Breakfast. The cost is $2 for members and $3 for non-members.  

If you need help with your taxes, AARP will be at the Center on Fridays until April 11. Contact Audrey at 802-345-5415 to schedule an appointment. Leave her a message and she will return your call. The Senior Center is not able to schedule those appointments. 

There is a list of plastics on the bulletin board that will be accepted. We have made our goal of 1,000 pounds and have received the bench but are still collecting to help with other community projects. Please continue bringing in your plastics.   

April Foot Clinics will be held on Wednesdays, April 9, April 16 and April 23. These are sponsored by Lake Sunapee Region VNA and Hospice with a charge of $30. Call 603-748-1731 to make an appointment with them.   

Bingo is held every Wednesday afternoon. Purchase cards by 12:45 p.m.; games start at 1.  

Want to show your cribbage skills with others? Come and join other enthusiastic players on Tuesdays at 1 p.m.   

“Wannabe” mahjong newcomers are welcome. Interested in learning the game? Come on Fridays at 1 p.m.    

Come show off your knitting masterpieces! We are excited to see them, so come by on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. and have a good time.    

The Women to Women group will meet Thursday, April 17 at 1 p.m. All women are welcome to come and talk about any issues they are experiencing.   

An American Red Cross next scheduled blood drive will be on Monday, April 21 from noon to 5 p.m. Call 1-800-Red-Cross (1-800-733-2767) to schedule appointment.  

Do you want to be part of the game of pool? Ladies play every Monday from 1 to 3 p.m. Men play Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. Everyone is welcome.  

Come tell your story with the quilting skills you want to share with other quilters. You don’t have to be a quilter to attend; bring your own project. The next meeting is Monday, April 7 at 10 a.m.  

The next chair yoga session is Monday, April 7 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. It is free for members and $5 for non-members. The sign-up sheet is in the lobby.   

Bring your line dancing feet every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Beginner’s line dance begins from 7-8:30 and then intermediate dancing from 8:30-9 p.m. The cost is $3 for members (bring your card) and $5 for non-members. One price will give you both beginner’s and intermediate sessions. Bring your own beverage and a snack if you need one.   

The next tai chi session will be on Wednesday, April 9 from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at the Claremont Senior Center. Everyone is welcome to join this class, whether a beginner or advanced. We will go over the form (a series of flowing movements), exercises to help further with balance/fall prevention/ease of movement, etc., and tools to practice at home. The cost per month is $40 for members and $50 for non-members. Walk-ins cost $15 per week. For questions call Djem at 802-490-0225 or email [email protected].  

The next Friday night fundraiser bingo game will be on Friday, May 2 and May 30. There will be no bingo in June. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.; games start at 6. This is open to the public; must be 18 years of age to play. Concessions are available through intermission. If you are interested in helping with future events, whether calling to serving, call Cheryl at 603-543-5998.  

The next membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 15 at 1 p.m. This will give you a chance to hear what is happening with the center and have a chance to win a free lunch.    

New members are always welcome to come enjoy the facility. You can sign up for a “one-month trial membership” that way you can enjoy our programs and activities before you join us.
