SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The legal troubles continue for a Springfield resident who is scheduled to appear in court on April 29 to face charges of alleged retail theft, something that has been a bit of a broken record for the defendant.

Nathan Heist, 29, was cited for the alleged offense of retail theft on March 11 stemming from an incident on Jan. 30 at the Family Dollar located in Springfield Plaza.

According to the Springfield Police Department, the Family Dollar contacted the Springfield Police Department to report a retail theft that occurred that afternoon.

“Investigation revealed that the defendant had allegedly stolen items for sale from the store,” the Springfield Police report stated.

Heist was located by police and cited for the charge on March 11. He is scheduled to appear in the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit in Woodstock, Vermont on April 29 at 8:30 a.m.

Last month, Heist was arrested by Springfield Police for an active warrant and held at the Southern State Correctional Facility in lieu of a $15,000 cash or surety bail. Previously he had been either cited and released, only to commit other offenses.

Heist was convicted on a domestic violence charge in 2018 and a violation of an abuse order in 2024. He was cited and scheduled for a March 11 arraignment on felony charges from a Jan. 14 incident where he was charged with larceny and domestic violence but never showed for the court date.

That same day, Heist was arrested and charged with retail theft and unlawful trespassing when a Springfield Police officer observed him committing multiple crimes when he allegedly stole items from a Shaw’s supermarket that he was trespassing at.

Heist was arrested on March 13 and held on the $15,000 bail, and on March 14 he was arraigned on felony charges of larceny and domestic assault and pled “not guilty.”

Heist has a status conference on April 9 at 9 a.m. according to the Vermont Superior Court. He also has a May 6 arraignment for retail theft and trespassing from Shaw’s at the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Windsor Unit.
