Ernest R. Duprey

SPRINGFIELD, VT— Ernest Robert Duprey, 72 passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH, with Sara by his side.  Ernie was born September 1, 1952, in Springfield, VT the son of Robert Ernest and Pauline (Day) Duprey.  Ernie graduated from Springfield High School, Class of 1970.  For many years he served on the board of the SHS Alumni Association.

Ernie’s love of sports continued throughout his life whether he was playing in the game, managing the team, or as a spectator.  For many years he played and umpired in the Springfield and Chester Men’s Softball Leagues.  He rooted for the Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox.

Ernie joined the Boy Scouts of America starting as a Cub Scout and worked his way to Eagle Scout and was a troop leader.  Ernie’s work ethic started “early” delivering newspapers for the Springfield Reporter.  Some of his varied jobs were working for Dick’s Shell Station and Furman’s Dept Store in Springfield, VT.  He managed Calan’s Clothing in Claremont and Illuminations in Lebanon, NH.

He always had a big smile, usually had a joke to share, and he cared.  Many may recall him in the Alumni Variety Shows performing as one of the “Shady Ladies.”  Ernie had many pets over the years that he doted on.  He always had dog treats in his pocket for any dog friend he would encounter along his way.  He enjoyed feeding the birds and taking daily walks in the woods.  Ernie attended Scottish Festivals to learn more about his heritage, enjoyed times at Lake St Catherine with friends and trips to the coast of Maine.  He enjoyed reading, especially Westerns, and crosswords.  He enjoyed his life.

He will be greatly missed by his partner of nearly 40 years Sara Streeter; siblings, Rosa-Lee Gould, David Duprey, William Dodson, Stephanie Poleio, Leona Pratt, Bobbi-Jo Voight and Theresa Duprey-Dwire; his stepmother Rita Duprey and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He is predeceased by his mother Pauline Duprey and his father Robert Duprey.

Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 1:00-3:00PM at the Davis Memorial Chapel in Springfield, VT.  A celebration of Life will follow.
