Severe Weather Awareness Week the perfect time to learn

CONCORD, N.H. — During this year’s Severe Weather Awareness Week from April 20-26, the New Hampshire Department of Safety’s Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management will provide information on preparedness and safety tips to residents and visitors.

The Granite State experiences all different types of severe weather. Flooding is the main disaster that affects New Hampshire. In recent years, the state has seen tornadoes, earthquakes, extreme heat and extreme cold.

Each day during Severe Weather Awareness Week, HSEM, along with the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, will share information on how to be prepared before, during and after severe weather events.

“New Hampshire is home to more severe weather than some people may realize,” said HSEM Director Robert Buxton. “With proper education and preparedness, residents and visitors can remain safe during the various weather events we experience. This week is a perfect opportunity to review your family’s emergency plan and update your emergency kit from winter to the warmer months.”
