CLAREMONT, N.H. — A vehicle rolled over on Main Street on Wednesday evening, crashing into an old utility pole that officials say fortunately was not hooked up to electricity.
At 5:08 p.m., the Claremont Fire Department was toned to the area of 739 Main Street, also known as Route 12, for a report of a single motor vehicle accident with entrapment. However, upon arrival, the lone occupant was already out of the vehicle.
“We were fortunate that we didn’t have any power lines that came down,” Chief Jim Chamberlain said. “When our crews showed up the vehicle was rolled off the roadway, so there wasn’t any serious danger to crews working in the road.”
Chamberlain was unsure how the vehicle, which was a sedan-style car, ended up rolling over or what the cause of the accident was. He deferred comment to the Claremont Police who were on the scene first about whether they needed to extricate the driver or if they got out on their own. A message was left with Chief Brent Wilmot but not returned by deadline.
Chief Jim Chamberlain said the officer in charge would not go as far as calling the injuries serious, but the driver was transported by Golden Cross Ambulance to Valley Regional Hospital to be treated for unspecified injuries.
“There were injuries involved but I’m not sure to what extent,” Chamberlain said. “We didn’t use any extrication tools and there wasn’t any entrapment.”
