Claremont Senior Center news 

CLAREMONT, N.H. — The Claremont Senior Center is open every Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. There are many activities including pool, card games, cribbage, puzzles, mahjong, knitting and quilting, to name a few. There is also a Miracle Ear, American Red Cross Blood Drive and VNA Foot Clinic also scheduled.   

Reservations are required for both dine-in and takeout meals by 10:30 a.m.; call 603-678-0433. The menu for Tuesday, May 6 is maple glazed chicken, rice pilaf, vegetables and orange cake. The menu for Thursday, May 8 is mac & cheese, stewed tomatoes and lemon blueberry pudding. The price is $5 for members and $6 for non-members. Dine-in meals begin at 11:45 a.m. and takeout begins at noon.  

The trip to Lake George, New York, is full, but if you want to be put on the waiting list in case of cancellations, call Cheryl at 603-543-5998. This will be on the Lac du Saint Sacrament cruise boat with a complete buffet. The dining area is air-conditioned for comfort.  You are welcome to go on the upper decks, as well. Live entertainment will be provided on the boat. This trip is rain or shine. The cost is $100 for members and $115 for non-members.  The cost does not include the tip for the bus driver. We will leave the Senior Center at 8:15 a.m. and return by 5:30 p.m. Cheryl will start taking payments this month.  

The Senior Center Yard Sale will be held Friday, June 6 and Saturday, June 7 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations are currently being accepted; morning hours preferred. The donations help defray the cost of fuel at the Center. Accepted items include clean, usable, household and kitchen wares; small furniture and appliances; indoor/outdoor holiday décor; arts and crafts; quilting and sewing supplies; toys; games; puzzles; linens; sports and camping equipment; and pet supplies and tools. Items that are not accepted include large appliances and furniture; mattresses; luggage; carpets and rugs; clothing; shoes; electronics, including typewriters, computers and TVs; books; VCRs; CDs; DVDs; stuffed toys; car seats; exercise equipment; and helmet and skis. 

We are starting to gear up for the annual car show and we need your assistance. The next car show meeting will be on May 21 at 6 p.m. in the Mozden Room. Please attend if you’re interested in volunteering. This year’s event will be on Saturday, Aug. 23 at Claremont Motorsports Park.  

Audrey from AARP will be taking walk-ins to do property taxes on Friday, May 23. This is a one-day only event; no appointments needed.  

There is a list of plastics on the bulletin board that will be accepted for a community project. 

May Foot Clinics will be held on Wednesday, May 14, May 21, and May 28. These are sponsored by Lake Sunapee Region VNA and Hospice with a charge of $30. Appointments are required by calling 603-748-1731. 

Bingo is held every Wednesday afternoon. Purchase cards by 12:45 p.m.; games start at 1 p.m. Concession is open until bingo starts.    

Want to show your cribbage skills with others? Come and join other enthusiastic players Tuesdays at 1 p.m.   

“Wannabe” mahjong newcomers are welcome. Interested in learning the game? Come on Fridays at 1 p.m.    

Come show off your knitting masterpieces!  We are excited to see them, so come by on Fridays from 1 to 3 p.m. and have a good time.    

The Women to Women group will meet Thursday, May 15 at 1 p.m. All women are welcome to come and talk about any issues they are experiencing.   

An American Red Cross next scheduled blood drive will be on Monday, May 19 from noon to 5 p.m. Call 1-800-Red-Cross (1-800-733-2767) to schedule an appointment.   

Do you want to be part of the game of pool? Ladies play every Monday from 9 a.m. to noon and men play Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. Everyone is welcome.  

Come tell your story with the quilting skills you want to share with other quilters. You don’t have to be a quilter to attend; bring your own project. The next meeting is Monday, May 5 at 10 a.m.  

Bring your line dancing feet every Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. Beginner’s line dance begins from 7 to 8:30 and then intermediate dancing is from 8:30 to 9. The cost is $3 for members (bring your card) and $5 for non-members. One price will give you both beginner’s and intermediate sessions. Bring your own beverage and a snack if you need one.   

The next Friday night fundraiser bingo game will be on Friday, May 30. Doors open at 4:30 p.m.; games start at 6 p.m. This is open to the public; must be 18 years of age to play.  Concessions are available through intermission. If you are interested in helping with future events, whether calling or serving, call Cheryl at 603-543-5998. There will be no June bingo.  

The next membership meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 13 at 1 p.m. This will give you a chance to hear what is happening with the center and have a chance to win a free lunch.    

New members are always welcome to come enjoy the facility. You can sign up for a “one-month trial membership” that way you can enjoy our programs and activities before you join us.
