City building inspector unexpectedly dies following sudden medical event

CLAREMONT, N.H. — Claremont mourns the sudden passing of Chief Building Official and Health Officer Joel Tremblay, who suffered a medical event on Saturday, May 3, while conducting an inspection for the city.

Despite the swift response of emergency services, Tremblay passed away shortly after at Valley Regional Hospital.

According to a release issued by co-interim city managers Nancy Bates and Brent Wilmot, Tremblay was a dedicated public servant whose work and commitment to the city of Claremont and state of Vermont spanned many years. Known for his professionalism, integrity, and deep knowledge of building codes and safety standards, he played a critical role in ensuring the safety and integrity of structures across the city.

“Our thoughts and heartfelt prayers are with Joel’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time,” said Mayor Dale Girard on behalf of the Claremont City Council. “Joel was more than just an inspector — he was a trusted team member, a mentor to others, and a kind and genuine individual who cared deeply about this community. His dedication to public service will be remembered and honored.”
