NEW LONDON, N.H. — Colby-Sawyer College will confer 268 degrees at its 187th Commencement on Saturday, May 10, including 11 to the institution’s first doctoral candidates.
In addition to the Doctor of Nursing Practice graduates, Colby-Sawyer will award
42 master’s degrees, 202 bachelor’s degrees and 13 associate degrees to the Class of 2025 inside the Dan and Kathleen Hogan Sports Center.
At the 10:30 a.m. ceremony, Colby-Sawyer will also recognize faculty and students for excellence and citizens for outstanding contributions to the college and state.
Assistant Professor David Lutz will receive the college’s highest teaching honor, the Jack Jensen Award for Excellence in Teaching. As Jensen winner, Lutz, who offers courses in environmental science, GIS and remote sensing and environmental chemistry, will give the Commencement address, titled, “Always be…”
Destiny Cruz, ’25, a forensic psychology major and business and legal studies minor from Fall River, Massachusetts, will be presented with the Colby-Sawyer Award for exemplifying personal dignity, intellectual growth, contribution to campus life and constructive influence on other students.
Joshua Warner will receive the David H. Winton Baccalaureate Award for ranking highest in scholarship in the Class of 2025. The biology major and chemistry minor from Barrington, New Hampshire, will graduate in three years with a 4.0 grade-point average.
Warner’s classmate, Brian Cal-Mallo, a graphic design major and business minor from Manchester, New Hampshire, will give the senior Commencement address, titled, “Finding Our Place, Creating Our Purpose.”
The college will bestow attorney and former U.S. Congresswoman Ann McLane Kuster with an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree for her exceptional leadership, dedication to public service and commitment to improving the lives of New Hampshire families.
Colby-Sawyer will also present Pamela Stanley Bright ’61, a dedicated alumna and former member of the college’s Board of Trustees, with its highest honor, the Susan Colgate Cleveland Medal for Distinguished Service.
Cleveland was a longtime trustee and benefactor of the college, and granddaughter of its first teacher. The award is given to people who exemplify Cleveland’s attributes to ensure that her work, dedication and influence will be remembered by future generations.
