Hi! I am running to be your state senator because we need the state to contribute more to the funding of public education, a path to reduced property taxes, ensure individual rights, and an environment and economy that enables young people to stay and live in New Hampshire.
I appreciate the opportunity to introduce myself to the readers of the Eagle Times and the voters of Senate District 8. District 8 is composed of 20 towns from Charlestown and Claremont along the Connecticut River all the way to Weare and Dunbarton, which are part of the Merrimack River Valley. It is a large district of mostly rural towns that needs a strong voice for our public schools, our economy and our natural environment.
I am a husband and father of two. My wife and I live in Weare where we built our home and farm. I have been an organic farmer for almost 40 years and have coached youth sports and robotics for over 15 years. I helped found and am still an active member of a multi-farm cooperative that has been in business for over 20 years.
As mentioned, I am running for office to be a strong voice for three things.
First, the state should contribute more to funding the public schools. Although the state has the Constitutional obligation to fund the public schools, it provides less than 30% of the funds. This is the lowest percentage of any state in the U.S. This places the burden on the local property taxpayers. More state funding for public schools would guarantee every child the opportunity for a great education, provide property tax relief, and allow towns to ensure that other important services like fire departments, highway departments and libraries can do their important work.
Second, I support strong individual rights. These include reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights and voting rights.
Third, we need to keep New Hampshire a place where our young people want to stay and live. This means paying attention to issues of significant importance to them, including job opportunities, affordable housing, accessible and reasonable cost child care, health care and mental health care for all, climate change and promoting tolerance.
As your advocate I commit to strengthening the education system for our children, pioneering property tax reduction and making New Hampshire a place where our children can grow, work and play.
